I love to find out what each school nickname or mascot is. As we traveled down to Destin on Weds. I saw a ton of high schools. I know this sounds crazy but if anyone has heard of a crazy school name let me know. I'm talking middle school, high school, college, or pro. The other day we saw your typical bulldogs, eagles, and tigers. One that caught my eye was in the little town of Laurel Hill, FL. They are the Hobos. The fighting Hobos- imagine that. I am creating a list of the craziest mascot names. Examples: Long Beach St.- Dirt Bags and the Sidney Lanier High School Fighting Poets. I would love some help compiling this list if anyone is interested, it will be the top 15 craziest mascots. One last one, which I can't remember the school name, it was a high school in the Northeast, they were the Polka Dots. The fighting Polka Dots. That is great locker room bulletin board material.

Well....
....In Alabama we have, the Higland Home High "Flying Squadron" and the Slocomb High "Redtops" as well as the Sidney Lanier High "Poets" you mentioned.
Over in Georgia, you have the Cairo High "Syrupmakers"... and Johnson High in Savannah are known as the "Atom Smashers".
Nashville has the Harpeth Hall High "Honeybears". Mullin High in South Carolina are the "Auctioneers". East Union High in Mississippi go by ...the "Urchins".
Louisiana has the St. Joseph Academy "Redstickers". Florida has the Tarpon Springs High "Spongers" as well as the Seabreeze High "Fighting Sandcrabs" (and the "Hobos" u mentioned). And Arkansas has the Ozark High "Hillbillies". Where do they get these names?
I will let someone else worry about Colleges but I will start it off with a couple of my favs:
Stetson University "Hatters"
UC-Santa Cruz "Banana Slugs" and the Brooklynn College "Bridges". Great Topic! :-)
Sadly, I have one from my alma mater.
I went to a small private school in Huffman called Faith Christian School. When the school first started, we were the Cavaliers! The mascot (picture) was this gay looking swash buckler.
After a few years, the powers that be, (old men like me) decided that was too worldly or gave the wrong impression.
We then became the...are you ready? CHARIOTS! There's a masot you can be proud of. What do you do? We opted for nothing. A guy in my class drew up a Spartand looking dude on a chariot and we used that. It was cooler than a chariot, anyway.
"Go you fighting..um er Chariots!"
I think "someone" cheated and Googled crazy mascot names......I'm just sayin'!
Saw one on a t-shirt in Boston last weekend.
"Butte High School Pirates"
No kidding, I hope it was a joke. Considering the flamer that was wearing it, I guess it was.
I happen to be a mascot afficianado ty very much! LOL About 50% were ones I knew then I couldnt help but look for more.
Clay's grandmom brought him back a baseball cap from the Savannah Sand Gnats. Huh??
OH-OH-OH! Thought of another one.
Our own instate minor league baseball team-the Montgomery Biscuits. Yum!! Do they have a biscuit gun instead of potato gun?
My school's mascot is the unicorns.
GO UNICORNS!
